Salary: $45,000-$49,000

The Lighting and Stage Designer creates immersive worship experiences through creative lighting and visual design, aligning with the mission of Worship Center and its ministries to lead people to be growing followers of Jesus who love God and love people. This role balances independent initiative with team collaboration, accountable for delivering engaging lighting and stage design for services and events mainly through creative expertise and a well-equipped volunteer team. This position reports to the Technical Director.

Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40-45 hours per week. The schedule includes hours on Sundays, designated office hours during the week, and occasional flexibility for events outside of regular hours.

Experience & Abilities

  1. Education: 2+ years of designing or programming live production lighting or environmental media elements. ETCP certified rigger or able to acquire certification upon employment. Experience or certification in ETC architectural lighting systems and control a plus.
  2. Experience: Technically Proficient in industry-standard technology, including MacOS, GrandMA, Resolume, Adobe CC, Novastar Processing, & lighting data standards (DMX/ArtNet/sACN). Experience or formal training in broadcast lighting techniques is preferred.
  3. Specific Abilities: Assess and rigorously follow rigging, electrical, and load safety standards. Read, design, and implement Vectorworks technical lighting and electrical documents. Must be comfortable and able to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs. and spend extended periods in a lift. General knowledge of broadcast video standards and graphic techniques. A strong contributor to team success through effective communication. Receive and apply constructive feedback, relaying to volunteers in an encouraging manner.

Bonus: working knowledge of other areas of production: Audio- Digico/Waves/Qsys; Video- Ross/Blackmagic/ProPresenter

What This Person Does

  1. Ensure engaging environmental lighting and design enhances an immersive worship experience or inspiring ministry event, both on-site and online for any size gathering, in alignment with the vision of Worship Center and its ministries
  2. Manage development and scheduling of volunteer lighting operators and stage techs, fostering their spiritual health and definable technical growth.
  3. Program, direct, and operate lighting and environmental screen content for church services, ministries, & events. Manage console show files and patching to ensure a consistent, user-friendly experience across all lighting spaces.
  4. Design and lead regular stage changeovers, lighting plot updates, & LED reconfigurations in all staged spaces.
  5. Manage the repository of all environmental media assets. Curate, design, and produce assets in line with the Worship Center branding guide while fostering timely collaboration on interdepartmental projects.
  6. Collaborate with the Live Video Director to ensure lighting design and environmental media assets are effectively captured on camera for all recorded services, ministries, and events.
  7. Collaborate with the Technical Director to develop short-term, long-term, and critical backup plans for equipment reliability and longevity. Manage the lighting budget and oversee assigned projects within the overall AVL framework.
  8. Serve in an occasional rotation of systems and producer-style roles for weekend services. Become cross-trained and cross-train other team members.
  9. Assist with other "all hands on deck" projects, events, or other production duties ministry-wide as the Technical Director assigns.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
