Job Description
Position : We are seeking a dynamic certified school nurse to assist our dedicated team of nurses 16 hours per week. The substitute school nurse will provide medical treatment to students in a school setting when the regular school nurses are absent across our six district schools.
Responsibilities:
- Provide immediate medical assistance and administer first aid to students and staff in case of injuries, illnesses, or emergencies.
- Maintain emergency response protocols and procedures, including CPR and AED training, to ensure readiness for any medical emergencies.
- Administer medications to students as prescribed by healthcare providers, following school policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper documentation of medication administration and maintain accurate medication records.
- Conduct health screenings and assessments to identify health concerns or issues among students.
- Implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic health conditions, in collaboration with parents/guardians, healthcare providers, and school staff.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students, including immunization records, health assessments, and medical treatment documentation.
- Assist with vision and hearing screenings and special projects.
Qualifications:
- Current Maine Registered Nurse License
- Possess (or be eligible) Maine DOE certification as a School Nurse (524)
- Current Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) certification
- Current certification in CPR/AED
- Three (3) years experience as a professional registered nurse
- Knowledge of current practices for common childhood conditions and chronic conditions especially asthma, allergies, diabetes & seizure disorders
- Experience working in pediatric (ages 4 to 21) preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Start Date: August 2025
Salary: Prorated hourly per CBA
