The Speech Therapy Assistant position assists Speech-Language pathologists (SLP) in the assessment and treatment of patients with hearing, speech, language and swallowing problems based upon the medical diagnosis and the physician’s order for speech/language services that are consistent with the accepted speech pathology standards of practice. EDUCATION: Associate Degree in SLPA Program required. Bachelors Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders preferred. EXPERIENCE: Preferred Minimum six months related experience and/or training. Successful completion of a minimum of one hundred (100) hours of supervised field work experience or its clinical experience equivalent. Demonstration of competency in the skills required of an SLPA. On-the-job training specific to SLPA responsibilities and workplace behaviors. An SLPA must complete an approved course of academic study, field work under the supervision of an ASHA-certified and/or licensed SLP. CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
